Recent Research

University College of London 27 November 2025

  • Certain spinal fluid tests have been able to detect the main protein that makes up Lewy bodies with 95% sensitivity. Being able to use these tests in a broader clinical setting will help determine whether they have the ability to diagnose LBD faster.

  • Certin MRI techniques, such as free water imaging, neuromelanin-sensitive MRI, and iron-sensitive approaches such as quantitative susceptibility mapping, are being considered to help differentiate LBD from Alzheimer’s disease and monitor progression.

  • Research is also examining blood tests as a way to make diagnosis faster and easier.
